GamesIndustry.biz is reporting that EA has filed trademarks for several popular 90’s video game franchises. These include: Populous, Theme Park, Road Rash and Wing Commander. The article also quotes EA’s Bright Light Studio boss Harvey Elliot as ‘keen to reassess old Bullfrog properties such as Theme Park and Populous’. EA acquired Bullfrog and Origins Systems (responsible for the Wing Commander series) back in the early 90s. Since then, none of the acquired properties have gotten much use, although, a Wing Commander arcade game was released for Xbox Live a few years back. If EA does choose to do anything with Wing Commander, let’s hope they bring back Chris Roberts. If only to make amends for that awful film starring Freddie Prinze Jr.
