For whatever reason, you find yourself out of money this holiday season and still feel compelled to give out gifts for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or whatever, I’ve compiled a list of crafty and creative ways of giving the gift of gaming. Some of these take only an afternoon, other projects would take a bit longer. Hopefully something on this list will inspire you to create or not buy gift cards. That being said, budding artists are attempting to make a living off some of these creations by selling them online for you last minute shoppers or everyday geeks. Please support independent and check out all the cool stuff after the break.

There are some amazing things that can be done with cloth, yarn and / or used towels. As a huge fan of Zelda, there were a couple of items that made me hugely happy. The super cute Link hearts Zelda Scarf with Navi Hat and, even more so, the Link corset. One can also have enough towels, especially if they are Castle Crasher themed. Or, if you feel there aren’t enough robot references in life, you could learn how to knit a Megaman hat. You could go even farther back into the old school with the Space Invaders scarf & hat. Perhaps utiliatirian items aren’t your style, instead choosing to gift the gift of cross-stitched art, such as a Mario or Street Fighter themed mural. All these things (and more) need a place to go… perhaps a Star Trek stockings or a wicked Monster bag would do the trick.

There is a comfort in felting. The soft beauty makes everything look nice. Its like the black and white photography of craft. That being said, here are a couple of exceptional examples of felting. First, this sweet NES controller iPhone case will have all those Apple-cult retro geeks wetting themselves with glee. Next is a collection of fabulously created old school characters including Pac Man, Q-Bert and more. Also, a very honourable mention goes to these Day of the Tentacle tentacles made by amigurumi

Tired of that same old white paint job on that Xbox? These are a couple of great tutorials on painting Xbox controllers or an Xbox custom faceplate. Perhaps you’re tired of that old Nintendo collecting dust? Here’s how to modify it into a Nintendo Lunchbox and the gun into a cool laser pointer that’d drive cats and geeks wild. If you want something slightly less cool to do with the gun, there is always the possiblity of a tribute to Duck Hunt in the form of a lamp. Lastly, basically any box can be turned into an amp. So, if you feel that your old PS2 would be the best box to rip apart and put a speaker in, you’ll be happy about PS2 guitar amp tutorial.
