Modern Warfare 2 sells 1.2million copies in the U.K.

While we wait for the ludicrous North American sales numbers for Modern Warfare 2, we can report that the game has sold a whopping 1.2 million in the United Kingdom, beating out previous record holder Grand Theft Auto IV which debuted last year to the tune of 630,000 copies. Michael Rawlinson, Director General of the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association, seems to be overjoyed by the announcement: “These first day sales figures are astonishing and clear evidence that video games are now mainstream in the UK.”

Activation couldn’t be reached for a comment today, as most of their employees spent the day swimming in their newly installed Scrooge McDuck-style Money Bin.
