As promised Spike’s Video Game Awards premiered a slew of new teasers for some exciting, and not-so exciting, games coming in the new year. We already knew Halo, Prince of Persia, and Medal of Honor would debut something, however, the announcement of a Batman: Arkham Asylum sequel surprised many. Thankfully Destructoid recorded most of these teasers and threw them on their site. For the sake of convenience, I’ve taken the liberty of compiling them all into this post – so why not hit the jump and check them out.
Halo: Reach
Sadly, nothing in terms of actual game play is shown in this teaser – a common trait of the night, sadly. However, the footage is supposedly rendered in Bungie’s new game engine – confirming statements made by an internet user who leaked early photos of the game last month.
Batman 2
This announcement caught everyone off guard. Batman: Arkham Asylum is arguably one of the best games of this year and judging by its critical acclaim and strong sales a sequel was inevitable. However – this fast? Once again we’re given no game footage (is there even a game at this point?), rather a look at the sequel’s premise. Frankly, the idea of, once again, taking on the Joker and his Goons is less than thrilling – not to mention a serious cop out. Let’s hope Edios has more up its sleeve with this one.
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
UbiSoft announced several weeks ago that it would be releasing a new Prince of Persia title to support this summer’s theatrical adaptation. They also made it clear that the title would be a sequel to the acclaimed Sands of Time series, and not last years lame-duck reboot. So here we have the teaser for The Forgotten Sands… and, its all pre-rendered… and frankly, not very interesting.
Crackdown 2
I loved the original Crackdown, so color me excited for this sequel. I’m still a bit worried about the choice to drop original developer Realtime Worlds in favor of newly created Ruffian Games. Especially when Realtime has said they would have gladly worked on this title.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II
I wasn’t a fan of the original, but I understand many of you were. No in game footage here, just a nicely pre-rendered teaser.
Medal of Honor
EA’s attempt to reboot the aging Medal of Honor franchise looks a lot like, well, Modern Warfare. At the end of the day, did this REALLY need rebooting?
Spec Ops: The Line
Spec Ops hasn’t been heard from since 2002. Hell, the last title was on the Playstation, I believe. This sequel (reboot?) looks to shake things up in an interesting way. Also, do I see in-game footage?
Tron: Evolution
Appears to be a prequel to the upcoming Tron sequel. Meaning, it will probably suck. The game, not the film. I still have high hopes for the film. End of line.
True Crime
You know what you never hear? Someone saying, “Dude, I wish there was a new True Crime game coming out soon!” There’s probably a reason for that.
